The University of Miami libraries are major
research facilities for the Southeastern United States and
Caribbean regions. Collections include over 2.2 million volumes
and over 2.7 million microfilms. More than 17,000 current
periodical and serial publications are received.
The Louis Calder Memorial Library, which serves the University
of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center complex, has a substantial
biomedical collection, including books, audiovisuals and over
2,400 journal subscriptions. In addition to the library's
holdings, students have "access" to over 30 on-line
search services, including Medline, AIDSline, Health Planning
and Administration, Combined Health Information Database,
PsychINFO, Toxline, ERIC, EMBASE, Current Contents-Life Sciences,
as well as other national and regional data bases.
The Otto G. Richter Library, the University's largest library,
located on the Coral Gables campus, is a depository for all
publications of the federal government. It also houses collections
of the State of Florida and United Nations documents. Other
library facilities include various departmental and school
libraries, including the Law Library, Marine Science Library,
and the Music Library. The University's library resources
are supplemented by interlibrary loan services and by membership
in the Center for Research Libraries.
A computer lab is available in the department for all students
in the graduate Teaching Programs in Epidemiology and Public
Health. This resource facilitates access to the mainframe
programs, E-mail, word processing programs, statistical software
packages and Epi Info.
