Graduate Degree Training Programs

Epidemiology and Public Health

The program offers two master's degrees and one doctoral degree. These degrees are founded on intensive and rigorous curricula designed to enable the student to develop the competencies and professional experience necessary to pursue careers in public health practice, population health research, or academics.

Physical Therapy

This Doctor of Philosophy program has been developed to educate physical therapists whose professional interests include both the aspiration to teach and a commitment to research. Training provides the mechanism for the development of research competencies, and for the analysis of neuromuscular disorders that interfere with motor function.

Nursing

The research emphasis builds on the faculty’s expertise in multicultural nursing and blend the basic and applied sciences through the establishment of multidisciplinary research projects related to emerging infection, women’s health, aging, and international health.

Postgraduate Training Programs

Clinical Scientist Training Program

This two-year certificate program provides participants with skills necessary to design and conduct clinical or applied basic research. Funded by a Clinical Research Curriculum Award from the National Institutes of Health, the CSTP consists of formal coursework, a seminar series, and a mentored research project. Since the CSTP is a postgraduate training program, enrollees should have an M.D. or D.M.D. degree and have completed their clinical training. The program is also open to scientists with Ph.D. degrees in clinically related disciplines.

The Fogarty International Center (FIC) AIDS and TB International Training and Research Program

The FIC program is designed to assist investigators from developing countries who have an advanced academic degree in HIV/AIDS and/or TB related research/training and to facilitate international collaborative interaction between the HIV/AIDS and/or TB researchers at the University of Miami and foreign institutions. Candidates are generally required to hold an advanced degree (M.D., Ph.D., D.D.S., Dr.P.H., D.V.M., or equivalent degree) before the beginning date of their appointment. Consideration is occasionally given to individuals with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field as well as to health care workers.
